Turn Someday Into Day One

Looking for a Sunnyside alternative?

Updated August 2026

Ours is one of the two apps on this page. This one is more of a fork in the road than a contest, and which way you go depends on something only you can answer.

The short answer

Sunnyside is the best-executed moderation app there is and it never shames you. Which makes this the one honest question worth asking: is cutting back still working?

What Sunnyside does well

Sunnyside

The friendliest app for mindful drinking

Sunnyside never shames you. You set a weekly plan, log your drinks, and get warm, encouraging check-ins along the way. There's no "day zero," no failure language — just gentle course-correction. For someone who drinks more than they'd like but isn't looking to quit, that tone is exactly right, and it's probably the best-executed moderation app out there.

Where it may not fit

Here's the honest line: Sunnyside is built for cutting back, not stopping. If you've tried moderation more than once and it keeps sliding — if "just two tonight" has a way of becoming six — an app designed around planning your drinks may not be the tool for where you are now. That's not a knock on Sunnyside; it's just not the problem they set out to solve.

It's also alcohol-only, and it's for the drinker. If you're the one lying awake while someone you love pours another, there's nothing in it for you.

The fork in the road

If you drink more than you'd like and moderation is genuinely holding — the weekly plan works, the numbers come down, you feel better — then stay where you are. Sunnyside is built for exactly that and it's kinder about it than anything else. This page isn't trying to talk you out of it.

The question is only for the person who has been here more than once. If "just two tonight" has a habit of becoming six, and each plan holds a little less time than the last, then an app organised around planning your drinks is organised around the thing that keeps sliding. That's not a failure of yours or theirs — it's a mismatch between the tool and where you are now.

What's on this side of the fork: a day count rather than a weekly limit, a ninety-day programme that treats stopping as something you learn, an SOS screen for the evening the plan would have broken, and no failure language either — a slip is a campfire here, not a reset to zero.

And if you're the one lying awake while somebody else pours another, there's a whole side of this app for you. Sunnyside has nothing for that, and doesn't claim to.

Which should you pick?

Pick Sunnyside if moderation is working, or if you haven't genuinely tried it yet with structure and want to. It's the best tool for that job and the tone is right.

Pick this if you've tried cutting back more than once and watched it slide — or if you're the person on the other side of somebody else's drinking.
