Turn Someday Into Day One

Looking for an I Am Sober alternative?

Updated August 2026

Ours is the second app on this page, so weigh what follows accordingly. We've said where theirs is better, because on this one it plainly is in places.

The short answer

I Am Sober has the best day counter there is and a huge community behind it. A counter is a scoreboard, though — and at 2am you don't need the score, you need something to do.

What I Am Sober does well

I Am Sober

The best-known sobriety tracker there is

The day counter is clean and satisfying. The morning pledge and evening review give your day a shape — a small ritual that a lot of people genuinely stick with. The community is one of the largest anywhere: whatever milestone you hit, someone else hit it today too, and you can see their faces and stories.

It also covers many habits, not just alcohol, and the free version is enough for plenty of people to get started.

Where it may not fit

I Am Sober is built for one person: the one doing the quitting. That's not a flaw — it's just its shape. If your spouse or partner is going through this with you, there's nothing in it for them to open.

It's also tracker-first. The counter and pledges are the heart of it. If what you need at 2am is someone to talk you down — a voice, a breathing exercise, a structured daily lesson to work through — that's not the job it was built to do. And some people find a very large community feed motivating; others find it noisy when they're raw. Only you know which one you are.

The scoreboard and the game

Nothing here is a criticism of the counter. Watching the number climb is real motivation, the morning pledge gives the day a shape, and plenty of people stay sober largely on that rhythm. Keep it if it's working.

What a tracker can't do is the bad hour. So this app is built the other way round: the SOS screen comes first — breathing, grounding, a 2.5-minute exercise that rides the urge over its peak, six recorded voices that talk you through it when you can't read a screen. Then a daily lesson underneath it, a few minutes, ninety days.

On the community: a big feed helps some people and is too loud for others, especially when you're raw. The rooms here are small, moderated before anything posts, and open 6am to 10pm — deliberately not a feed that never stops.

And there's a whole private side for the person who loves you, which no tracker has.
